Liam Hemsworth didn't have to force a connection with his Lonely Planet onscreen leading lady Laura Dern who, at 57, is 23 years older than him.
'[We] didn't know each other beforehand,' the 6ft3in Australian heartthrob admitted to People on Wednesday.
'It was weird. It felt like we'd known each other for a long time, and there was this instant trust there, and connection. And as we worked together, that just grew and evolved.'
Liam continued: 'We had such a great time doing this project together. And it was a really unexpected, wonderful surprise to work with someone that I was already such a big fan of and is obviously an amazing, brilliant actress.'
In it, the youngest Hemsworth brother plays Owen Brophy, a man attending an idyllic writer retreat in Morocco to support his girlfriend Lily Kemp (Diana Silvers), who proceeds to tell a room full of people: 'He only reads Sports Illustrated.'

So instead, Brophy becomes enamored with reclusive, newly-single author Katherine Loewe and they embark on a Marrakesh love affair in Susannah Grant's May-December romance premiering this Friday on Netflix.
In the trailer, Katherine warns Owen 'careful' when he puts his hand on her shoulder and leans in for a poolside kiss.
'When you meet someone you are a fan of and respect so much, you don't want to come across as an idiot or seem silly. But when we met, all of a sudden it was like, "Oh, I'm speaking to someone that understands me and hears me,"' the ex-husband of Miley Cyrus gushed.
The LA-born Oscar winner interrupted: 'Who's also an idiot and silly?'
'And she's as much of an idiot as I am,' Liam smiled.
'We got along and we never had to do any sort of work to find that relationship. We had this connection and it was sort of... what do you call it? Life imitating art or the other, art imitating life?'
Laura said filming with Hemsworth 'felt like we were just walking around experiencing Morocco, hanging out as Laura and Liam, and someone was filming it somewhere.'

'There was times when we were shooting in the Marrakesh markets where we couldn't even see the camera,' the Emmy-nominated producer - who will soon head up season four of The Witcher - described.
'We're literally just walking around and chatting to each other, and we were completely immersed in it.'
Diana Silvers, Younès Boucif, Adriano Giannini and Rachida Brakni will also star in Lonely Planet.
